Find Dickinson County Civil Court Dockets

Start a civil case search with the Kansas District Court Public Access Portal, then confirm anything important with the clerk of the Dickinson County District Court, since that office keeps the official file. A Dickinson County civil court docket lists the parties, filings, motions, and settings in a civil matter. Pick the right filter: civil, family, or probate. Not every document appears online, even when the record itself is public at the courthouse. For a hearing date, check the court calendar. For a judgment or certified copy, ask the clerk.

Dickinson Civil Portal Filters

The category split drives any Dickinson County civil docket search. Regular and limited actions usually sit under Civil. Domestic cases fall under Family. Probate and mental-health matters keep their own filter, and their own access rules.

A portal result is public case information. It is not a certified record. Treat it as a pointer to the document the clerk can provide.

What a Civil Docket Shows

A Dickinson County civil docket entry can carry the caption, party roles, attorney or pro se status, judge, case number, event date, time, courtroom, event type, and a note. The posted PDF leans toward settings. A portal index may reach broader case information, though neither one amounts to the full filed case packet.

Case NumberCounty code, year, case-type code, and sequence.
PartiesPlaintiff and defendant, or petitioner and respondent roles.
RepresentationAttorney listing or pro se status.
SettingJudge, date, time, courtroom, and event label.
Filing or OrderThe event index may name it; the clerk file holds the document.

Dickinson Civil Code Differences

DK-CV and DK-LM are different animals. CV usually flags a regular civil action. LM flags a limited action. When a notice or pleading shows a code, run the Dickinson County civil docket search with that code.

CV
Regular civil case-type code.
LM
Limited civil action code.
Motion
A request for court action; the entry is not the ruling.
Paperwork Only
Processing work rather than a standard courtroom appearance.
Aid in Execution
A post-judgment proceeding tied to enforcement.

Odyssey numbers pair the DK prefix with a six-digit sequence. Dickinson matters opened before August 5, 2019 may instead use an older year-code-number format with no DK.

Types of Civil Cases on the Docket

The civil range at Dickinson County District Court is wide. The clerk's own case list spans regular civil, limited civil, domestic relations, small claims, probate, child support, and protection-related matters. Portal and document access rules differ from one type to the next.

  • Contract, debt, and other regular civil actions
  • Real-property and tort matters
  • Limited actions and small claims
  • Domestic-relations and child-support cases
  • Probate and other protected case categories

Small claims still belongs to district court, simplified procedure and all. It is not a city municipal matter. Expect protection, family, probate, and mental-health records to face closer access review than an ordinary public civil filing.

Dickinson Civil Filing Numbers

The Kansas FY2024 civil filing table shows why the portal's categories matter. Through the period ending June 30, 2024, Dickinson County logged far more limited actions than regular civil actions.

97regular actions
756limited actions
1,039total civil filings in the table

Regular actions broke down as 25 contract, 38 other, 26 real-property, and 8 tort filings. Limited actions added 751 contract and 5 other filings. These are filing counts, not people, outcomes, or live open cases. Use them as context when choosing a search filter.

Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets

A civil docket setting in Dickinson County can name a motion, status conference, or pretrial conference. It can also cover an answer hearing, appeal, probate petition, contempt matter, or another event. The label tells you why time was reserved. It says nothing about the merits or any result. The 2026 Eighth District court-days calendar gives Dickinson a recurring 9:30 a.m. civil block. Treat that block as orientation rather than personal notice. Holiday closures, staff days, continuances, and judge assignments all reshape the working calendar. Match the case event against the Dickinson docket PDF page. Call the clerk if a setting conflicts. A recurring civil time block does not set your obligations. It never overrides the date and instructions issued in the specific case.

That statute backs the local point: Dickinson County District Court holds state civil matters, small claims and limited actions included. The official Kansas hearing reminder service adds an optional reminder channel for the listed civil categories.

Reminders cover civil, limited, small-claims, and domestic matters, but the filed notice and the clerk stay authoritative. Separately, Dickinson County's official historical index notice documents a preservation limit touching some historical vital records.

That notice is local context only. It does not mean civil court dockets from the same years were lost.

Dickinson Civil Motion Trap

On a Dickinson County civil docket, a “Motion” entry only shows that a request or hearing entered the case. It tells you nothing about the judge's ruling. The request could be granted, denied, or deferred. Read the same caution into contempt, appeal, and answer-hearing labels before drawing any conclusion from the court docket.

Read the order: Use the docket to locate the event, then request the resulting order when the ruling itself matters.

"Paperwork Only" is another local PDF label that invites overreading. It often signals processing, not an in-person hearing. Two words in a calendar row cannot tell you whether attendance is required. Trust the case notice and the clerk's confirmation instead.

Public Access to Civil Dockets

Kansas eCourt Rule 22 limits what case records may be shown electronically. Ordinary public Dickinson County civil docket information can appear online. Certain documents and protected data stay back. Family case information may show even when the document behind it is withheld. Probate, mental-health, protection, juvenile, and sealed matters call for extra care with any docket search.

For public material the internet does not carry, the courthouse terminal is one answer. It includes some converted documents. A clerk request under the Kansas Open Records Act is another route. No request beats a sealing order or a statutory exception. K.S.A. 45-221 lists the exceptions and explains how exempt portions get separated from the rest of a court record.

Dickinson Civil Record Layers

A portal result, a calendar setting, and a filed civil document each answer a different question. The search result locates the case. The PDF confirms the hearing time. The clerk file holds the complaint, petition, answer, order, or judgment whenever access is allowed.

Local policy gives the clerk three business days to fill an information or copy request. Copies run $1 for one through four pages, then 25 cents per page after that. Ask about certification costs and delivery before you order.

Dickinson Civil Reminder Option

Kansas hearing reminders cover civil, limited, small-claims, and domestic matters. A text reminder can help. It cannot reset a deadline or change a court order. Treat the current case notice as your main instruction on court dates.

If no reminder comes, check the statewide portal. Check the Eighth District docket and the clerk too. A calendar you downloaded earlier can miss a later reset. The PDF itself warns that recent continuances or changes may not appear yet. Conflicting dates? Call the District Court rather than picking whichever entry suits you.

Note: The reminder service supplements the Dickinson County civil docket. It never becomes the official source of a hearing date.

Dickinson Civil Older Records

A 2019 Odyssey change shapes how an older Dickinson County civil docket turns up. Current case numbers run DK, a year, a case code, and six digits. Older numbers may lack the DK prefix. When you know the older number, the portal's Dickinson County selector can still help.

A March 2025 Kansas Judicial Branch update adds a caveat. Some converted documents stay offline. Even so, public courthouse access remains. An older case record may show its index but no document. That is not proof the filing never existed. Use the Abilene courthouse terminal. You can also ask the clerk for the named complaint or judgment directly.
